Privacy Policy

Homegames has no accounts and doesn't track you. There are no cookies, analytics or ads. Your games, projects and saves stay in your browser. A few things have to reach a server or another player's device to work, and they're all listed here.

What stays on your device

Games you play, Studio projects and their history, assets, game saves and settings like your theme and player name are stored in your browser. They aren't sent to Homegames. Clearing this site's data in your browser deletes them, so download backups of anything you want to keep.

What our servers see

  • The website. homegames.io is hosted by Amazon Web Services. Like any website, it receives your IP address and basic request details, such as the page or game file and your browser type, so it can send them to you.
  • Playing together. When you invite friends to a game or join one, your browser connects to our connection server at api.homegames.io. It sees your IP address and passes connection details between players so your browsers can connect directly. It doesn't store them.
  • Sharing a copy of a game. This uses the same connection setup. The game itself goes directly from one browser to the other and is never uploaded to Homegames.
  • Logs. Our servers may keep ordinary request logs, which include IP addresses, to fix problems and stop abuse. They aren't used to track people and aren't sold or shared.

Other players and services

  • Other players. Games connect players' browsers directly, so the people you play with can see your IP address. They also see the player name you choose. Only play with people you trust.
  • Google's STUN server. Browsers use stun.l.google.com to find a direct route to each other, so Google sees your IP address when you connect to other players.
  • Relays. Some networks block direct connections. If a relay server is used, it passes your encrypted game traffic along and sees both players' IP addresses, but it can't read the game.
  • History videos. YouTube players load only after you press Play. At that point your browser connects to YouTube, whose privacy policy applies. Opening a video link also takes you to YouTube.
  • Links. Discord, GitHub, YouTube and X have their own privacy policies.

If you host your own server

The downloadable Homegames server runs on your computer. Your games, players and saves stay there. It only contacts Homegames if you turn on one of these settings:

  • homegames.link. Your server checks in with homegames.link, which keeps your public IP address and your server's local network address so people on your network can find it. They're removed about 90 seconds after your server stops checking in.
  • Secure connections. Your server sends a certificate request to the Homegames API, which stores it and the certificate with your public IP address. A DNS record points your homegames.link address at your server's local network address.
  • Error reporting. Your server sends error details to the Homegames API.
